I agree. I use .7, and the FTP implementation is
the worst it's been in a long time. Hopefully
this will be cleared up by .8, because about 60%
of the FTPs I visit are unaccessable. NCFTP has
no problem with any of these sites; I just run it
and in about seven seconds, I'm there. Even when
Mozilla FTP does work, it takes literally 30
seconds of CPU on my 464 MHz processor to load the
file list!

I'm surprised there have been no comments yet! I'm a fairly big dock app fan and was intrigued when I heard about this one. Well, I compiled it and: wow! This can replace about half of the dock apps you see around by itself, and, better yet, it's not window manager dependent! What's even better is that gkrellm supports a plugin interface, allowing vast expandability! gkrellm is very easy on the CPU and packs a lot of information into a little bit of space. Do yourself a favor and try this program!
