Linux device driver for CueCat barcode readers that supports multiple PS/2 CueCats on either the keyboard port, mouse port (without disabling the mouse) or USB port through a PS/2 -> USB adapter, or native USB CueCats. A standalone application that doesn't require the driver and also reads barcodes from a CueCat connected to a serial port through a homemade PS/2 -> serial converter is included as well. The driver separates CueCat barcode scancodes from normal keyboard or mouse scancodes, decode the barcodes, performs error-checking on them and send them in clear text through a normal character device file. NOTE : the company that created the CueCat has disappeared. CueCat readers are no longer produced or distributed.
CueAct is a utility that uses the CueCat driver to execute specific commands when a barcode is swiped with a CueCat reader. The program can run different programs based on different types of barcodes read, or the particular reader that has been used to read a barcode. The options for barcode recognition and commands to run are fully configurable, and the utility can run as a standard program or a daemon in the background.
CWirc is a plugin for the X-Chat IRC client to transmit raw Morse code over the internet using IRC servers as reflectors. The transmitted Morse code can be received in near real-time by other X-Chat clients with the CWirc plugin. CWirc tries to emulate a standard amateur radio rig: it sends and receives Morse over virtual channels, and it can listen to multiple senders transmitting on the same channel. Morse code is keyed locally using a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, or using the mouse buttons, and the sound is played through the sound card, or through an external sounder.
xcw is a small utility that makes it possible to input text into any X11 program with a Morse key. It reads Morse from a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, decodes it, then sends the decoded text to the X window currently in focus. The Morse code sound is played through the sound card.
CWBot is an IRC bot to provide online services in Morse usable with the CWirc client. It can broadcast world news in Morse and Hellschreiber, RAC ham news, act as a MorseMail to CWirc repeater, be a CW tutor, or send fortune cookies in Morse, over an IRC channel or through DCC chat, with adjustable keying speed and Farnsworth spacing. It is easily extendable with scripts or external programs to provide additional services in Morse.
The Linux Duracell CPU load monitor is a program that drives a Duracell or Energizer on-battery tester to display the CPU load of a system. It can be easily adapted to display other things that can use a slow bar graph kind of display that varies between 0% and 100%. Instructions to hack a AA-battery tester and turn it into a computer display are included in the distribution.
Push Puppet Toy is a computer-controlled puppet that stands to attention when a friend joins an IRC channel or comes online on IM, and collapses when he leaves. The concept is very similar to the Availabot (http://availabot.com/), but works under Linux. Schematics, firmware for the puppet, and plugins for Gaim and XChat to control the puppet are provided.
Pingo is a simple dedicated IRC bot that watches the status of a PlaneShift server. PlaneShift is a free open-source MMORPG located at www.planeshift.it. Pingo informs chatters on the IRC channel when a server goes down or back up, spontaneously or on demand, and maintains uptime statistics for the server.
Excellent, very good!
I just installed bitlbee, in worked in 5 minutes without a hitch. This thing is the cleverest idea since the invention of sliced bread.
Now, I've always wanted to make a Gaim plugin version of CWirc (http://webperso.easyconnect.fr/om.the/web/cwirc/), but now thanks to bitlbee, I don't even have to : CWirc has just been instantly upgraded to work with any IM network. I just tried it with a friend, and it works just fine. Morse-over-ICQ baby!
Thanks a lot Wilmer, bitlbee is by far and away one of the most useful piece of software I've tried in a long time.
This is good !
What a good laugh. Great project !
