Clementine is a modern music player and library organizer. It is inspired by Amarok 1.4, focusing on a fast and easy-to-use interface for searching and playing your music. You can search and play your local music library, and listen to Internet radio from Last.fm, SomaFM, and Magnatune. It has tabbed playlists, the ability to import and export M3U, XSPF, PLS, and ASX, visualizations from projectM, the ability to transcode music into MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, FLAC, or AAC, the ability to edit tags on MP3 and Ogg files, organize your music, and download missing album cover art from Last.fm. It has native desktop notifications on Linux (libnotify) and Mac OS X (Growl), as well as remote control using a Wii Remote, MPRIS, or the command line. It can copy music to your iPod, iPhone, MTP, or mass-storage USB player. It has a queue manager.
Weighted Slideshow is a small shell script that creates a random playlist file from image files in the current directory. This list can then be used as input to an image viewer (such as "feh"). Although many image viewers can display a slideshow of randomly selected pics, Weighted Slideshow strongly favors files with newer modification times over older ones.
vitunes is a curses-based music player and playlist manager whose goals are a minimalistic appearance, strong vi-like bindings, and quick playlist creation/management. It does not strive to be a full-blown media player, but rather a full-blown media indexer and playlist manager. It uses MPlayer to support a wide range of media formats. It also makes use of TagLib for metadata extraction from many common formats.
Plgen (Playlist Generator) is a tool that sorts files for MP3 players in a user defined order. Cheap MP3 players often come with no playlist capabilities. In addition these players often make use of the FAT16/32 file system, leading to confusion when the playing order is not alphabetical on the device even though it is shown as alphabetical in the file explorer.
eduMagnet can search and access different online video sites (YouTube, Blip, TeacherTube, RSS, German public TV, etc). Students and pupils can create playlists of lectures and talks and play educational content using an embedded video player (MPlayer). As an OLPC project eduMagnet is developed for the sugar OS, but can also be used in any Linux environment using GTK. Students may synchronize playlists to the online platform eduMagnet.org so that other users can subscribe to their playlists. Access to new online video sites can easily be added using python plugins ("Magnets").
Micro Signage is a lightweight software suite that can be used as the basis for creating digital signage appliances, such as advertisement screens and full software systems. It is intended to be used to control the playback of media files and be managed over the network through a socket server, which is included.
