Xmcd is a full-featured CD player and ripper software suite including xmcd and cda. Both utilities transform your CD drive into a stereo CD player, allowing you to play music CDs on your computer, as well as perform digital audio extraction (DAE) into files or streams of various formats. Multi-disc CD changers are also supported on many platforms. Xmcd features CDDB disc recognition, web browser integration for content related to the playing CD, local discography management, full feature-specific help system, remote control capability, and more.

    Release Notes: Compilation problems on Linux 2.6.x and FreeBSD 5.x were fixed along with a crash in the cda program that occurred on startup. Support for faac 1.24.x was added.

      Release Notes: This release adds support for CD ripping to MPEG-2/MPEG-4 AAC, MP4, and FLAC file formats, support for CDDA modes on the OpenVMS platform, user-selectable CDDA multi-threading model (with either SysVIPC or POSIX threads), ALSA 1.x support, while maintaining compatibility with ALSA 0.9.x, old IRIX dmedia API support as well as new API, improved character set handling and conversion between UTF-8 and ISO8859-1, a message of the day service feature, bugfixes, and other code cleanups.
