Vyatta is a Linux-based routing and security distribution. It is meant to deliver a flexible, affordable alternative to Cisco 1800 through 7200 series routers. Vyatta is also a great virtual router, virtual firewall, virtual security solution for VMware, Xen, XenServer, and KVM virtualization projects.

    Release Notes: New features include 802.11 wireless interface support; flow accounting; enhancements to WAN load balancing; SSH enhancements; SNMP enhancements; DHCP server options; binary image installation; IPv6 SLAAC; IPv6 routing policies; improved Citrix XenServer hypervisor support; IPv6 firewall; P2P firewall; time-based firewall rules; rate-limiting firewall rules, address groups, and a zone-based firewall model; NAT enhancements, including per-rule logging; WAN load balancing enhancements; source-based routing; QoS enhancements; and IPv6 enhancements, including OSPFv3.

      Release Notes: This version greatly expands Vyatta's security feature set, adding SSL-based OpenVPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), and Web URL filtering, among many other improvements. New features include improved VPN security with OpenVPN, improved performance with Web caching and Ethernet bonding, support for network access policies via URL filtering, a new Web-based graphical user interface, enhanced DNS capabilities for SME environments, and improved virtualization performance.

          Release Notes: This release represents a substantial change to the Vyatta system. Nearly every subsystem was touched in some way. The new FusionCLI management interface provides networking and Linux functionality from the same prompt. The routing protocols have been reworked for increased scalability and performance. Remote access VPN support has been added. The QoS capabilities have been enhanced. WAN load balancing has been added. PPPoE support has been added. A DHCP client has been added. ECMP routing has been added. There are many bugfixes.
