open is a simple program which opens a file in an appropriate program based on the filename extension.

Name clash and namespace polution
There once was (not so long ago) a program named open.
It had been there for a long time, and is still there under the
name "openvt", so as to reduce namespace polution.
Keeping such a name here probably won't help anyone.
