Projects / Meta Window Manager

Meta Window Manager

A Meta Window Manager is a means to write window managers. The project aims to provide a modular code base for window manager developers, not to write yet another window manager. The idea is to help with policy experimentation, (less time spent reinventing the wheel with each new manager) simplify maintenance if/when projects are abandoned (one code base to learn for lots of managers), and encourage development of many managers with focused policy designs instead of a few managers that are hugely configurable.

Release Notes: There is a new test_manager module for testing a new graphics architecture (the new graphics arch is still not started yet). The old test module has been moved to pwmclone_manager. Preliminary work has begun on porting to XCB. pwmclone_manager is updated to recognise _PWM_WORKSPACE_NUM hints, so if you swap from pwm to pwmclone, you preserve your workspace setup. Modules are now built using libtool. An m4 preprocessing stage has been added to building to deal with symbol mangling, so modules can be compiled statically without symbol clashes.
