The Manhattan Virtual Classroom

Manhattan is a Web-based course management system. It includes its own private email system, a variety of discussion groups, assignments, surveys, and grades modules, live chat, facilities for delivering multimedia, and more. Designed for asynchronous Web-based distance learning, Manhattan can also be used to add an online dimension to traditional courses. Manhattan is fully documented.

    Release Notes: This release adds a completely Web-based Grades manager and support for the commercial GradeQuick package. Also, users are informed of unread messages at login. Several enhancements have been made to the Surveys module. Messages can be "flagged". A number of bugs have been fixed.

      Release Notes: This release adds a Podcasting module, a Flash-based MP3 audio player, a course usage report utility for admins, and a number of important bugfixes.

        Release Notes: This is a major new release. Full use of the Clearsilver templating toolkit now makes it possible to change the look and feel of Manhattan, and makes it much easier to translate Manhattan into languages other than English. A generally nicer look is used throughout, with many new features. This release is fully backward compatible with all version 2.x classrooms.

          Release Notes: Teachers can now use the Topic Manager to mark assignments and discussion topics read-only. Also, the Post Office module has been redesigned to make it consistent with the other modules, and now allows users to delete unwanted messages. There are several minor bugfixes.

            Release Notes: This release adds support for Hot Potatoes 6 quizzes in the Assignments module and makes other improvements to the online testing feature. Survey result bar graphs now include additional information about the survey, making a printout of the page more useful.
