madwifi
Madwifi provides a Linux kernel device driver for Atheros-based Wireless LAN devices. The driver presents the WLAN card as a normal network interface. It includes support for Virtual APs, which makes it possible to configure a single radio as several APs, and support for multiple modes such as a station, ad-hoc, or monitor. The driver is compatible with the Wireless Extensions API, which allows a Madwifi device to be configured with common wireless tools (ifconfig, iwconfig, and friends). Madwifi is released under a dual BSD/GPL v2 license, except for the binary-only HAL.

Release Notes: This release fixes a security issue (CVE-2007-5448) where remote attackers could cause a denial of service (panic) via a beacon frame with a large length value in the extended supported rates element. Also, compilation against kernel 2.6.23 was fixed.

Release Notes: This release mainly fixes compilation issues with kernel 2.6.22. Two NULL pointer dereferences and a memory leak have been fixed. Some annoyances have been addressed.

Release Notes: This release fixes three security issues. All users are strongly advised to upgrade. The issues are remote DoS caused by insufficient input validation in beacon interval and fast frame parsing and a local DoS caused by insufficient input validation in WMM parameters.

Release Notes: This release compiles on kernels as recent as 2.6.20 and as old as 2.4.22. It supports some PCI Express cards, and includes HAL v0.9.18.0. It repairs security issues, many bugs, and allows compilation without support for features such as fast frames or turbo mode. It does not support the AR5008 (802.11n aka "XSpan") chipsets.
