Kubuntu is a Linux distribution that is based on Ubuntu. The main difference from standard Ubuntu is that KDE Plasma is used instead of Unity. Its aim is to be a great integrated distribution that uses the full potential of the KDE desktop.

    Release Notes: This is a new Long Term Supported version, which means bugfixes and security updates will be added for the next 5 years. The KDE Applications and Platform 4.13 release introduces a greatly-improved semantic search as well as stabilization and improvements in key applications like Okular. Mozilla Firefox 28 is the default Web browser. Muon Suite 2.2 brings additional improvements to Software Center. There is also a completely new driver manager.

      Release Notes: This version features a new versions of KDE's Software Compilation 4.11, adding faster Nepomuk indexing, Kontact improvements such as a new theme editor for e-mails and preparing the ground for future developments using Wayland and Qt 5. Muon Discover, a friendly new way to discover and install applications. User Manager, a simpler way to manage your system users. Wireless setup in the installer. KDE Telepathy with better text editing and improved notifications. A new Network Manager applet provides a simpler UI for connecting to a range of network types.

        Release Notes: Kubuntu 13.04 is based on Linux kernel 3.8 and KDE Software Compilation 4.10. Included is is the new version of the Muon Suite for app install and upgrades. It introduces support for installing Plasma widgets. Version 2 of the Rekonq Web browser adds many new features. Homerun is a full screen alternative to the Kickoff application menu. A new screen management tool makes it easy to attach and unattach extra monitors. Available on the default install is a new font: Oxygen Sans.

          Release Notes: This release brings KDE Plasma workspaces 4.9, KDE applications 4.9, Calligra 2.5 office and creativity suite, Amarok 2.6 music player, Rekonq 1.1 WebKit-based Web browser, Light-DM login manager, KDE Telepathy instant messaging, Skanlite image scanning app, Kamoso webcam app, Wacom graphics tablet configuration tool, OwnCloud 4, a new printing manager, a new color calibration tool, Facebook and Google integration with the Kontact PIM suite, Linux kernel 3.5, Python 3.2, and GNU GCC compiler collection 4.7. The 12.10 images need to be installed from a DVD or USB drive.

            Release Notes: New in this release are KDE Plasma desktop and KDE applications 4.8, Amarok 2.5 music player, Calligra 2.4 office suite, KDE Telepathy instant messaging, Kubuntu Active Technology Preview of interface for tablets, updated Rekonq Web browser, updated ownCloud, and improved Muon software management center and updater. Linux kernel 3.2.14 was included. This is a long-term support (LTS) release, which means it is supported for 5 years.
