Hubbub

Hubbub is the reference implementation for a federated social network of the same name. Instead of using a single provider who gets to decide what you do online, Hubbub's protocol allows you to become part of a distributed network that is not controlled by any central entity. By sending each other signed messages, Hubbub nodes all over the Internet communicate with each other on behalf of their users. As a user, this means that you can export your data at any time and host it somewhere else. Nobody can delete or censor your content. It also means that only your "friends" receive your updates, and not advertising or data mining companies.
