GNOME is the GNU Network Object Model Environment. This project is building a complete, user-friendly desktop based entirely on free software. This desktop consists of small utilities and larger applications that share a consistent look and feel. It uses the GTK as the GUI toolkit for all GNOME-compliant applications.

    Release Notes: New additions are the Evolution email and workgroup client, and an improved and standardized file-type system for the GNOME file manager. File manager improvements include access to password protected FTP sites. Copying a folder over a folder of the same name now offers to merge the two directories. The CD burner's preferences dialog has been greatly simplified. There are various user interface themes such as the "Glider" theme. The keyboard control panel can now show an on-screen preview of each keyboard layout.

      Release Notes: This release features a new Web browser, improved accessibility tools, and 11 new applications to make day-to-day desktop use easier. There were also more than 100 user-requested enhancements.

            Release Notes: Changes include fixes for many visible/colormap issues, some panel bugs, some gtkhtml related bugs in the help browser, and gdk-pixbuf 0.7.0 support. This latest development release also includes more documentation and more translations.

            Compiling Problems with egcs? (NO)
            As far as my system is concerned (GNU/Linux, egcs) I did not experience any problems with egcs or at all compiling Gnome. Okay, there were some small bugs I had to fix (mostly resulting out of my extravagant setup :) but no real flaws at all.
