Glitter Newsreader

Glitter is an interactive GUI program for extracting binaries from newsgroups. It provides a mechanism for filtering files to ensure that you retrieve only the binaries that you want. You may also schedule the binary download for a convenient time.

I finally found it btw. Buried in a directory called "C" in the "doc" folder which also contains Makefiles. They install to the Gnome directory.

Just posting so other people can find them quick and easy.

I've never used something specifically made to suck binaries off usenet, I don't get what I'm supposed to be filling into the boxes. Description of...what I want? What I don't want? What's a Hook program?

Looks very pretty but without documentation, might as well be wallpaper.

Aside from the odd name, Glitter is actually pretty good. I downloaded it last light and installed it on my Slackware 8.1 PC. I just ran it all night and ended up with 3000+ pics of pr0n :D

Anyway, there are a few things I wish for future releases. The biggest thing would be (and maybe it's possible to do this with a hook) some way of filtering _out_ based on certain criteria, i.e. <30KB or exe extension (gotta get rid of those dialers), etc. Another thing, I would like to see would be more control over what groups it's downloading from. That way I could set it up to d/l multipart binaries overnight, while doing shorter file during the day.

Overall, I think Glitter is great (9 out of 10), but I do have some hope for future features.
