Projects / Freecycle

Freecycle is a beat slicer providing amplitude domain and frequency domain beat matching and zero crossing algorithms. It exports sliced audio chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced loop. Alternatively, you can jam with it as soon as you've made slices using a MIDI keyboard or sequencer. Freecycle also exports AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler, SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop from the application to the desktop. It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well as applying envelopes to seperate slices.

Recent releases

  •  10 Dec 2007 15:11

Release Notes: The bugs on 64-bit platforms were solved. The source code was made GCC 4.3 friendly. The naming schema on slice export was changed. Minor bugs were fixed.

    •  21 Mar 2006 10:27

Release Notes: This release replaces the PortAudio and PortMidi support with ALSA and alsaseq. PortAudio and PortMidi are still supported on systems without ALSA. The "Bark scale" is now provided for spectrogram plotting, which enhances the visibility of the audio wave in the frequency domain. There were also some bugfixes and minor optimisations.

      •  27 Sep 2005 14:59

Release Notes: Freecycle now depends only on libsndfile, fftw3, and Qt. All the other dependencies are optional. Some optimizations and bugfixes were also made.

        •  23 Aug 2005 12:52

Release Notes: Lot of new features wer added in this release, including a fully functional MIDI subsystem, allowing the assignement of MIDI notes to locked beatlines and realtime playing of MIDI note events. Freecycle now supports drag'n'drop from/to or within Freecycle. Moreover, it allows the dragged and dropped waves to be stacked and assigned to a scene. The other new addition to Freecycle is the SoundFont export, allowing easy integration of the work done with Freecycle with sequencer software such as Muse or Rosegarden.

          •  13 Jun 2005 08:32

Release Notes: Crop now crops the entire project (wave, beatlines, and LADSPA automation). Some memory leaks that occurred when loading or saving projects frequently were fixed. The LADSPA automation frame now shows the value when dragging a line, polyline, or spline.
